Four Mistakes to Avoid with Social Media Monetization

There are so many people who really don’t take the time to consider how much effort goes into creating an excellent social media profile. As a result, they make really bad mistakes and lose a lot of potential customers in the process. In order to make the right choices and monetize a social media presence, consider these four mistakes that many people are making.

1. Not Customizing Social Media Channels

Just because Facebook and Instagram fall under the category of social media platforms doesn’t mean that they can be treated the same. The interfaces are completely different. It’s important for people to customize their strategies based on the platform they are using.

For example, if one is putting certain content on Pinterest, they cannot copy and paste that same info into Facebook and think it’ll work in the same way. Facebook audiences tend to gravitate toward video content. On Instagram, pictures speak much louder than words. Study each platform, and approach social media management from a perspective that honors the differences.

2. Trying to Manage Too Many Social Media Channels at Once

If one approaches social media management with the hopes of managing a bunch of platforms at once, they can end up being ineffective with all of them. When someone is first starting out, it’s a good idea to use one platform first. As they become better at the process, they can add on an additional platform. If one is starting with Twitter, for example, it’s important to develop a strong strategy before adding Pinterest to the mix.

3. Lacking a Strategy for Building an Online Presence

When someone is building an online presence, it’s best to sit down and create a strategy. They’ll need weekly action plans and understood goals. It’s also important to know how many new people they’d like to attract by a certain time.

Additionally, building an online presence requires knowing how often to post content. Making sure that the right information is in a personal bio is also important. Finally, deciding how to draw more people in and determining how to convert followers into future customers is a must on one’s to-do list.

4. Not Engaging Anyone

Of course, social media is a “social” experience. For the most part, people are there to interact with others. When marketing on social media, it’s important to engage with customers as well as other brands. When someone leaves comments on a post, responding to the comment acknowledges the person’s presence and may spark conversations. The best posts create an ongoing dialogue between a brand and its consumers.

As one works to improve their efforts on social media, it’s important to understand that it might be an uphill battle, so it’s okay if it takes a little time to solidify an effective strategy. However, it’s worth the effort because it can help make a brand a successful household name.
